Here is a report I received from Ron Klein, who has been using the methods taught in my new 2-volume e-book, Help with Negative Self-Talk. Ron works with a lot of clients and trains people in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP (see http://www.ahtainc.com), so I respect his experience a great deal:

After attending Steve’s presentation on negative self-talk at the March 2010 Psychotherapy Networker conference, I was so impressed that when his e-book Help with Negative Self-Talk, came out, I immediately ordered both volumes.

The next week, I used one of the methods to relieve a driving phobia that resulted from a client’s negative self-talk when he saw a car in his rear-view mirror approaching from behind. The session lasted 15 minutes and I suggested that he test the outcome by driving on the Washington, DC Beltway for no more than 5 minutes. Forty-five minutes later he called to say he kept going because the fear was completely gone. A week later, he called again to say he was driving comfortably on route 95 from Washington to Atlanta, GA. Further, he said this was the first time in over 20 years that he had not asked his wife to drive as soon as they needed to get on a high-speed highway.

During a recent training weekend, one of the students said that whenever she wanted to ask a question in a classroom setting, she became frightened and inhibited herself. I asked if she would be willing to work with me as a demonstration subject and she agreed. When I asked her what stopped her, she reported that she had a very critical negative voice that says, ‘You’re stupid’ whenever she wanted to ask questions in almost any context where there were other people around.

I decided to use another method from Steve’s e-book. She first experienced what she described as a few moments of utter confusion, then tears of relief that the negative voice was now sounding more nurturing rather than critical, and moreover that it was saying something very helpful. I invited her to check in with herself to make sure there were no objections or concerns about this change, and there were none. I then invited her to imagine herself in future situations to facilitate the change generalizing in her life. She called a week later to report that she had attended a staff meeting and had asked a number of questions comfortably.”

I highly recommend both volumes.
