There just isn’t ANY substitute for seeing and hearing exactly what happens in an actual NLP change-work session.
NLP books and trainings are designed to be simple, teaching the different elements of effective communication in separate small pieces, to make it easy for people to learn. But even trainings usually lack the context of working with a new client who is unfamiliar with NLP. Demonstration subjects in seminars are usually fellow training participants who are already committed to this approach and have many understandings already in place. Often a method needs to be modified to suit a particular client, or some other method needs to be done first, or methods need to be blended together. Seminars don’t usually offer time for this kind of integration of skills, leaving a big gap between training and private practice with real clients.
Many NLP-trained therapists have had the experience of trying out a technique with a client or acquaintance and have it not quite work. This can be frustrating, and can lead to doubts about whether the techniques work at all, or if they only work due to some magical charisma of a famous trainer.
One of the best and easiest ways to bridge this skill gap is by studying client session DVDs of a skillful facilitator, working with clients with little-or-no NLP background. Follow-up interviews demonstrate the success of the intervention in the client’s real life after the session. You can review the DVD as many times as you want, observing and listening for different aspects each time—something that is not possible when observing a live session directly.

16|Dec|2009 1Steve, thanks so much for posting these inspiring videos! It’s great to see real NLP in action, in actual therapeutic sessions, and then also hear the results in the followup interviews. Good work!
